I was really excited to plan the engagement shoot for my friend Jen Tam and her fiancé Brian. Jen and I had worked together many times in the past for our fashion blogs and had developed a friendship, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to take her photos especially since I had a good understanding of her sense of style. It was not without some nervousness, however, since her fiancé Brian is a professional photographer himself, so talk about discerning clientele!
My vision for the photoshoot was to have two locations and themes. I wanted the first one to be soft, romantic, and dreamy. Whytecliff Park immediately came to mind. I had shot there once before for my blog and was looking forward to shooting there again. I went to the park the weekend before the shoot with my boyfriend to scope the area out and plan where I wanted to shoot. For the second location, I wanted to capture Brian and Jen's relationship. Throughout their courtship they spent a lot of time hanging out in coffee shops. Since their engagement, they've been spending even more time in coffee shops planning the details of their wedding. I thought it was only fitting that the second shoot take place in a coffee shop.
We were finally able to find a morning that worked for all three of our schedules, especially Brian's busy life of photographer, musician, recording engineer, and more, and it turned out to be a beautifully overcast day, which is this natural light photographer's dream. We drove to Whytecliff Park where Jen was a great sport about shooting in the cold in her beautiful floor length cut-out dress and Brian kept all of us laughing with his sense of humour. The photos of Jen where she is in a full grin throughout the photoshoot are completely genuine.
After the beach we drove to Liberty Bakery and Cafe on Main Street, which Jen said was one of their favorites. I can see why. It's so cute! We got some "props" to eat and I captured Jen and Brian in their element - talking, laughing, and being completely sweet with each other.
Brian and Jen, I hope you had as much fun as I did. Thanks for a great morning.
